Clarke Representing England In Italy

Clarke Representing England In Italy

Club Admin14 Oct 2022 - 13:58

Danny Janes will be without striker, Jamie Clarke, for a couple of weeks whilst he's away at the European Deaf Futsal Championships.

Clarke, who only rejoined Pershore Town ahead of the current season, has travelled to Montesilvano, near Pescara, in the Abruzzo region of Italy to represent England's Deaf Team at the European Deaf Futsal Championships.

Jamie is part of a 14 man squad for England out in Italy and whilst they're competing in a Futsal tournament, Jamie plays at the highest level in the Non-League Structure back here in England for Football.

All 14 members of the England squad had to self fund their trip to Italy to represent their country at the European Championships.

Whilst the tournaments opening ceremony took place yesterday, England begin their campaign today against Bulgaria after qualifying for the tournament in Israel last year and being placed in Group D for the tournament.

The Three Lions will then face Switzerland on Sunday before playing Bosnia on Monday. A top two finish in their group will see them progress into the Quarter Finals but also secure qualification into the World Cup Deaf Futsall Tournament in Brazil next year.

Any progression from the group stage would see England's Quarter Final take place on 19th October.

"Team bonding has been great, we have been meeting up and training so hard for this tournament. We've met up every month over this year and I feel our team is ready!" said Clarke.

"I can see the hunger and the focus in every player and I personally feel confident we can reach the Quarter Finals as a minimum, there is no reason however why we can't go all the way to the final.

"Unfortunately for me I miss our first game today due to suspension after picking up two yellow cards in our qualifiers, but I'll be there with the players for the game and cheering them on."

Games are shown live on YouTube, with England's game kicking off at 6PM (5PM in England) shown live here.
