The Plums wouldn't have been fancied by many at Cossham Street on Saturday, Glyn Ashton's Mangotsfield United had only lost once in their last twelve league games and held the second best defensive record in the Hellenic League.
It was another patched up Pershore Town side taking on the Hellenic League's second placed team with injuries and availability hampering Janes' selection.
Harlie Price handed The Plums the lead in the first half, heading home from a Bailey Fuller inswinging corner but the hosts hit back immediately, pouncing on an error on midfield before firing low across Joe Stockton and into the far corner from the right.
The two sides couldn't be separated by half time, no different to the reverse fixture back in September at the Recruit 12 Community Stadium. It was Mangotsfield that ran out victorious that day, running riot in the second half to win 4 - 1.
Saturday was very much different however and James Baldwin restored Pershore's lead early in the second half volleying home Harlie Price's flick on from just inside the area.
Pershore's third came in the best move of the game; Sean Cooke picking the pocket of his man before feeding James Baldwin, he turned and threaded Harlie Price in behind the Mangos defence before Price played a well weighted ball across the box for Fuller to tuck home at the back post.
Despite being pegged back by the hosts from a corner, The Plums showed good character to continue chasing goals and a Bailey Fuller free kick extended the lead once more.
The scoring was wrapped up then by a brilliant individual goal from James Baldwin, latching onto a long ball in the left channel before running his defender and charging into the box then tucking home from a narrow angle.
A 5 - 2 win for Janes' side, and it was a deserved one at that. The Plums becoming just the second side to score more than twice against Mangotsfield United in all competitions this season, joining Bristol City Under 23's.
"It was a really good day for us in terms of the performance levels and the result." said Janes.
"To go to Mangotsfield with the injuries we had and to produce those levels was simply outstanding.
"I was really pleased with the balance of our play. We played some good football and asked a lot of questions, which is something we have lacked over recent weeks.
"I was delighted with how ruthless we was in the final third, when the chances came they were taken.
"We conceded the two goals at pivotal moments in the game, but the players stood firm and showed that winning mentality which I challenged before the game.
"When we have the amount of players that we did who were bang at it, then results and performances of that manner will happen.
"Unfortunately for us, the consistency of those performances have meant we are where we are in the league.
"We now have to take this and build on that performance to ensure we finish as strong as we can."
