Match Preview; Brimscombe & Thrupp

Match Preview; Brimscombe & Thrupp

Club Admin29 Nov 2024 - 17:46

After an unplanned week off, Danny Janes' side are back in Hellenic League action tomorrow afternoon with a trip to Gloucestershire.

The Plums will travel to Stroud to take Brimscombe & Thrupp, it's a much changed 'Brimmy' side to the one that Janes' side hosted back in September, changes in management and in players.

The Lilywhites confirmed just this week that manager, James Martin, had left his role as First Team Manager by mutual consent. First Team Coach, Tim Bond, who had been brought in previously to work with a former management duo, was announced as taking over in the interim.

Last time out for our hosts was a 3 - 0 defeat to Fairford Town, away from home, on Tuesday evening. Fairford had taken the 3 - 0 lead in the first half before the two sides played out a stalemate in the second period of the game.

Kyle Witt made his debut on Tuesday, a striker that Bond knows well from their time together previously, Kyle has joined from Step 4's Melksham Town where he was the current top goalscorer for the club.

Paul Fahy and Luke Finch that will be missing for the hosts tomorrow afternoon, both have suffered long term injuries, Paul's being against Pershore at the Recruit 12 Community Stadium back in September.

Raiyan Ahmed leads the way in the scoring charts for Brimscombe, he has six goals in nineteen games to date this season and he proved a tricky customer for the Pershore Town defence in the previous fixture between the two sides.

Chalmers Phin will be another worth keeping an eye on, he's onto his third Hellenic League club of the campaign in Brimscombe & Thrupp having already played for Malmesbury Victoria and Royal Wootton Bassett this season. With two goals in nine games to date for The Lilywhites, they'll look to Chalmers Phin to dictate their performance.

It's back to the end of October for 'Brimmy's' last league victory, a 3 - 2 home win over Hereford Pegasus with Raiyan Ahmed netting twice. That said, they've registered two draws in their last four league games as they look to climb away from the bottom two.

Danny Janes' Pershore Town will come into this one on the back of a 2 - 0 away win over Cirencester Town, but they'll have been frustration at last weekend's fixture being called off.

The Plums have won three in a row in Hellenic League action but an 8 - 2 hammering against higher ranked opposition in Bromsgrove Sporting in the Worcestershire Senior Cup within those games has certainly kept Janes' side grounded.

Consistency has always been something Janes' has claimed his side have lacked this season, but three wins in a row will certainly be a positive at The Plums head into tomorrow's tough game.

Aidan Clark's impressive strike against Cirencester Town to secure the win two weeks ago puts him on eight goals for the season, whilst James Baldwin is still out in-front on nine.

Jake Donnelly will be hoping tomorrow will serve as the first of his two match ban, after last weekends' postponement, whilst Sean Cooke will be expected to return to the side after suffering with an injury recently.

Harlie Price could be in line to start against his former side, he lead the line against Cirencester Town last time around and now has five for the season for The Plums.

Petar Tonchev could also feature tomorrow, he was unavailable for the postponed game against Corsham Town. Elsewhere Scott Loader will be expected to start in goal after keeping a clean sheet against Cirencester and pulling off some big saves and crucial times.

It's another chance for both sides to secure three points, the hosts will want to get back to winning ways whilst Pershore will ultimately want to make it four league wins in a row.

"We are looking forward to the game after the postponement last Saturday." said Janes.

"Our league form has been really positive as of late and we want to continue that.

"Brimscombe have turned a corner over recent weeks so they will be a different test compared to the one we had earlier in the season. The pitch will be difficult but we go there with the intent of playing our way.

"With the weather this time of year and the disruption we will face, it is essential we are picking up points to try and stay close to those above us."
