Match Preview; Fairford Town

Club Admin7 Mar 2023 - 18:49

Pershore Town return to action on Wednesday evening with a trip to Gloucestershire to take on Fairford Town.

It's a Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup Quarter Final fixture against another team, in Fairford Town, from Step 5 for Danny Janes' side.

Fairford will prove to be the twelfth time since Danny Janes took over at Pershore Town in November 2021 that his side will take on a higher ranked opposition, The Plums have won ten of those eleven fixtures to date.

The Hellenic League Premier Division side will certainly be favourites for Wednesday evening's fixture and they come into the game having held FA Vase Quarter Finalists, Corsham Town to a 0 - 0 draw on Saturday.

Fairford have only had to win one game to reach the Quarter Final of the Challenge Cup, that in-fact came just a couple of weeks ago when they beat Corsham 1 - 0. Prior to that, Hungerford Town Swifts pulled out of the competition to hand Fairford a bye.

You can expect to see Robbie James wearing the armband for Fairford Town, having joined the club ahead of the 2018/19 season, Robbie has gone on to make close to one hundred and fifty appearances for the club.

Meanwhile, Jamal Lawrence has scored ten in twenty three games for the Hellenic League Premier Division side. The former Cheltenham Town youngster is expected to return to action following a recent ban and he'll be one Danny Janes' backline will need to be aware of.

As for The Plums, Danny Janes' side will come into Wednesday's game having dismantled a youthful Littleton side in the 'Worcestershire Derby'.

The Plums sit top of Hellenic League Division One whilst Milton United and Hartpury University remain hot on the heels and waiting for a slip up.

That said, Wednesday is a break from the league and a chance for Pershore Town to once against challenge with a team in the league they are striving to get into.

Danny Janes will be without midfielder Harry Burns, who is cup tied, but he could welcome back Jamie Clarke into the squad. With Matt Nutt also pulling up in Saturday's warm up, there is another spot in the squad opening up.

The schedule is tough for Pershore, it remains to be seen whether Janes will make many changes whilst we all know he'll be adamant in wanting to win the game and progress into the Semi Final.

At the top end of the pitch, Aidan Clark notched up his thirtieth goal of the season in all competitions as he struck four past Littleton. Danny Murphy was also on the scoresheet having missed a lot of football since joining from Racing Club Warwick with injury. Josh Willis returned from injury with an appearance from the bench, he had enough time to add two to the scoreline.

"The game presents another big test for us and we look to overcome higher opposition for the 11th time since we came in." said Janes.

"Fairford picked up a great result on the weekend against a strong Corsham side, we know we are in for a tough evening.

"We are going there to win and to perform. This game is just as important to us as our league results.

"The players will need to reach a high level in terms of performance if we are to get the result we want."
