Match Preview; Longlevens AFC

Club Admin2 Sep 2024 - 09:01

After a weekend off, The Plums are back in Hellenic League action tomorrow evening against Longlevens AFC.

Danny Janes' side will welcome Longlevens to the Recruit 12 Community Stadium for what will be both sides' seventh league game of the 2024/25 Season.

Craig Martin and Michael Palmer co-manage the Gloucestershire side and they come into tomorrow's fixture having picked up a point against Worcester Raiders on Saturday with a late penalty.

An indifferent month for 'Levens', an impressive victory at home over Westfields was backed up by defeat to Sporting Club Inkberrow and a heavy defeat in the FA Cup.

Defeat in the FA Vase at the first time of asking was then backed up with a solid win over Tuffley Rovers in the Hellenic League.

Longlevens AFC come into tomorrow night's fixture unbeaten in their last two games with Cameron Williams showing composure to slot his penalty late on against 'Raiders'.

Youngster, Finlay Gwillim leads the way in the goalscoring this season. The former Evesham United Development Team striker has four goals in six games for 'Levens'. His pace will be something that Danny Janes' side will need to be careful of.

Elsewhere, Ollie Long and Shaun O'Connor are the constants for Longlevens, both having now represented the club for a number of years, they'll prove critical to the spine of our visitors side.

The Plums remain without a win this season, Danny Janes' side sit just above the relegation zone whilst it is still very early days.

Pershore come into this one on the back of an FA Vase defeat at Stapenhill last Saturday and a bank holiday Monday defeat at home to Hartpury University.

Janes' is likely to welcome some new additions to his squad for the visit of Longlevens AFC tomorrow evening whilst also welcoming back Aidan Clark who had been unavailable recently.

Experienced midfielder, Steve Webb, will likely miss out however. 'Webby' suffered an injury against Stapenhill that saw him watch on from the sideline against Hartpury University.

There could be a return to action for the energetic Wil Beach, he has been injured in recent weeks but trained back with the squad last week.

Also returning is Zaq Hussain, having now served his three match ban following a red card against Sporting Club Inkberrow, Zaq is likely to return to the squad tomorrow evening.

"The players have responded fantastically to my comments and the accountability I have placed upon them." said Janes.

"Believe me when I say the players are giving everything and they really care about this club, unfortunately it is the level of performances that have been the issue.

"Having no game since last Tuesday has given us the opportunity to assess and reset.

"We have identified potential targets that we feel would help the team and improve results.

"Myself and Tom have worked relentlessly this week via various conversations with players and with one another.

"Tomorrow is another opportunity for us to kick start our season and it is one I am really looking forward too."
