Match Preview: Royal Wootton Bassett vs Pershore Town

Match Preview: Royal Wootton Bassett vs Pershore Town

Club News5 Dec - 12:24

After a run of narrow defeats, Pershore visit bottom-placed Royal Wootton Bassett seeking a vital three points following October’s 1–1 draw.

Pershore Town travel to the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground on Saturday to face bottom-of-the-table Royal Wootton Bassett Town, looking to bounce back after a difficult run of league form. The sides last met in October, sharing the points in a tight 1–1 draw at the Community Stadium.

Royal Wootton Bassett have endured a tough campaign and currently sit at the foot of the Hellenic Premier Division, but recent results show they remain competitive. A 4–2 defeat to Roman Glass St George in midweek followed a valuable 2–1 away win at Cribbs, while their cup exit to Hungerford Town Reserves came only after a 7-goal thriller. Despite their league position, they have taken points from sides such as Longlevens, Corsham and Westfields earlier in the season and have shown they are capable of causing problems.

Bassett’s defensive record has been a major challenge, with several heavy defeats throughout the year, but they have shown improved attacking intent — scoring three against Hallen and four against Hungerford in recent weeks.

Pershore head into the game desperate to turn encouraging performances into results. After the strong run in the cups during November, league form has been harder to come by, with missed chances proving costly in recent fixtures against Cinderford, Fairford and Lydney. The Plums will be keen to rediscover their cutting edge and put points on the board against a side below them in the table.

With the reverse fixture ending all square, Pershore know Bassett cannot be underestimated despite their position. A positive result would provide a timely lift heading into a busy December schedule.
