Pershore fell to a 4-0 home defeat against Corsham Town, as the visitors showed their quality and ruthlessness in front of goal.

Pershore hosted Corsham Town with both sides sitting just below the playoff positions. The home side went into the game without Cal Clayton, Elliott Sumnall and Yuri Quintas as they saw Jack Neal return following his absence last week.

Pershore started brightly and had the first clear chance when a corner found Reece Day unmarked, but his header drifted wide. Much of the opening period was played in midfield, with Corsham’s only early effort flying high and wide from distance.

Tyrese Griffin provided a spark down the left, breaking into the box, but his pass across goal agonisingly evaded the onrushing attackers.

On 23 minutes, a clipped ball in behind the Pershore defence was collected by powerful forward Nick McCootie, who beat Jack Knott before squaring for Neikell Plummer to tap home. Ten minutes later McCootie struck again, running from his own half holding off two defenders before firing in off the far post to double the lead.

A defensive mix-up shortly after could have worsened matters, but Joe Cunneen saved well to deny Corsham a third before the break.

Pershore began the second half with intent, Macca King’s blocked shot falling to Lucas Colley who curled just over. However, Corsham remained clinical, scoring from their first opening of the half with another simple finish inside the box.

Substitute Cal Harper’s cross-cum-shot was gathered by visiting keeper Ryan Clarke, while Reece Day tested him with a long-range effort, tipped over the bar. But Corsham’s cutting edge showed again, as Pershore failed to deal with a cross, and the resulting play saw a rebound effort off the post to make it 4-0.

Pershore saw plenty of late possession but struggled to carve out clear chances, with King’s long-range strike comfortably saved.

While the stats suggested a relatively even contest, Corsham’s ruthlessness in key moments proved decisive as they left deserved 4-0 winners.
